Don teaches a non-credited class at Sierra College in Grass Valley, California, twice a year. The class is called "Exploring the Night Sky" and runs six weeks in a row.
Spring 2010 classes will be held on Thursdays beginning February 4 and ending March 11 (with March 18 as a backup date) from 7:30 to 9:30 PM.
Fall 2010 classes will be held on Thursdays beginning September 16 through October 21 (with October 28 as a backup date) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
Each class consists of about an hour of lecture and discussion held in a classroom, and an hour of visual astronomical observation at the facility's observatory. We use a C-11 and several C-8 telescopes and a couple of 6" and 8" reflectors. We will also be using binoculars and the unaided eye.
This class is open to anyone wanting to learn more about astronomy. We will study the solar system, stars, clusters, galaxies, constellations and the motions of objects in the sky. The cost is about $84 for the course, payable to the Sierra College Continuing Education department. Visit their website at www.sccommed.org.
If you have questions about the course, please feel free to contact Don.
